SPRING COVE YOUTH BASEBALL LEAGUE
The Spring Cove Youth Baseball League (SCYBL) is being formed to provide the organizational structure under which we can bring together the children of the Spring Cove School District into one league for the formation of teams and inter-league play. While we realize there will be early logistical concerns with this move, many of the parents are already familiar with this district wide team formation in football and soccer. At a recent RSLB Parent's Meeting (January 10th), RSLB's participation in the SCYBL was discussed. The Board conducted a straw vote in favor of continuing forward with the appropriate documentation of changes to by-laws of the RSLB and the establishment of the appropriate by-laws for the SCYBL. The Martinsburg Youth Baseball League (MYBL) had previously decided to move forward as well. The intent is that we would participate in the SCYBL in 2013. At this point in time, the actual leagues would stay separate from the standpoint of the operations of the individual leagues (organizational structure, concession, field care, insurances, finances, etc.). There are many details to be worked out. And what we share below is not written in stone, but it should give you a conceptual idea of what we are working towards. All players registered in both leagues will be in a draft pool together. Teams will be built from this combined pool. We are investigating an option to hold a skills clinic, much like they do in football to help coaches estimate the skill levels of the players. In this first year, we want to consider specifically having the coaching staff of each team be a mix of coaches/assistants from the two leagues. As this combined league approach continues and the coaches and players are more accustomed to this grouping that may be less of an issue. Practices for the week will be split between the two fields; so a team will practice in RS one night and Mb another. We still intend to play our inter-league play with Northern Bedford and Claysburg. There is still much discussion on how we will handle tournaments. Any all-star teams will be built from the SCYBL with many details yet to be worked out. We hope this helps you understand what we are moving forward with. The intent is to improve the experience for the players. The joined draft pool will allow us to create more even times, 'right sized' to maximize playing time. it should help foster camaraderie between the players in Spring Cove and ease the transition that not takes place at the junior high in baseball. Football and soccer are already combined within Spring Cove.
PARENT PARTICIPATION AND LEAGUE LEADERSHIP

THIS WILL BE UPDATED PENDING UPDATED BY-LAWS.

This has been a topic of discussion for some time now within the league; both formally (at league meetings) and informally (in the bleachers).  Our league runs on the time, effort, and commitment of a few who are carrying the weight for the many.  And is good as our league is, it can be so much better if we can get everyone to take personal responsibility for its success.

We believe that everyone wants the best for their children and the league and that they are willing and able, to the best of their ability (or availability), to support this league.  However, part of the problem is that need has not always been made clear and expectations have not always been set appropriately.

Moving forward, our goal is to make the needs known and set the expectations for support of the many functions of the league.

While there are many details to work out in what is proposed below, we ask that you begin thinking about where your strengths are and how you can step up this coming year to make this the best year ever for the league.  And as much as there is to do, if we all pitch in and give of our time and gifts, we’ll find that we actually enjoy taking part in making this a successful league and seeing our children become better ball players and learning sportsmanship and cooperation.

The concept that is currently being considered is to create committees to help focus the work efforts for the league.  Included below is a quick look at the duties of the league officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) and a suggestion for committees to be responsible for the other duties of the league.  The proposed committees are: Concession Stand, Field Maintenance, Tournaments.

Also being considered is to get parent participation (through sign-up) to man the press-box (scoring and announcing) and things like trash collection and cleanup.

We encourage you to come to the league meetings in January and February (voting meeting) and to express additional ideas or concerns to our league President.
